HERITAGE OTTAWA
Do you agree that Canada's historic places deserve support?
Liberal Member of Parliament John Aldag (Cloverdale-Langley City, B.C.) is sponsoring a petition that calls on the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to ensure substantial funding for historic places in the 2019 Federal Budget.
In its report “Preserving Canada’s Heritage: the Foundation for Tomorrow”, the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development identified the need for federal leadership, including funding and incentives for historic places not owned by the federal government.
Petition e-1778 (National Historic Sites) calls upon the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to demonstrate federal leadership for historic places by working with the Minister of Finance to create a multi-million dollar fund in the 2019 Federal Budget that would support the efforts of Indigenous peoples, charities and not-for-profits to save and renew historic places, and encourage private sector investment and heritage philanthropy.
The petition, launched by the National Trust for Canada on July 11, 2018, will remain open for signatures until November 8, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. (EDT).
