HERITAGE OTTAWA
Centretown and Minto Park Heritage Conservation Districts
Developed mainly between 1890 and 1914, Centretown is one of the oldest residential neighbourhoods in Ottawa and has strong historical ties to Ottawa’s role as the national capital. Due to its proximity to Parliament Hill, Centretown provided housing for the expanding civil service and much of those early structures remain to this day, providing a rich fabric of historic buildings throughout the neighbourhood.
For the past several months, the City of Ottawa has been conducting the Centretown Heritage Study to update both the existing Centretown Heritage Conservation District and Minto Park Heritage Conservation District plans, which include policies to protect and incorporate heritage attributes as these areas continue to grow and develop.
The work has included an inventory of existing buildings in Centretown, a review of the boundary areas, and an update of the HCD plans. The results of the study will be available on the City's project website the week of March 7.
