HERITAGE OTTAWA
As we celebrate Earth Day and Canada's historic signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, it's hard not to think of the Central Experimental Farm National Historic Site - an internationally significant facility whose scientific research on matters of global importance, including climate change, remains at risk.
Heritage Ottawa is a member of the Coalition to Protect the Central Experimental Farm National Historic Site. The Coalition includes The National Trust for Canada, The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), The Canadian Insitute of Planners, and a host of other organizations and scientific authorities from around the world.
Last week, the former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Canada along with 13 former agricultural officials wrote to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to state their concern that "valuable research fields" on the CEF should not be sacrificed to a new hospital campus.
This week Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada, added her voice to the growing chorus of support for preservation of the CEF. The letter sent by Ms. May to the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, appears at the link below.
Heritage Ottawa remains committed to advocating for the intact preservation of the Central Experimental Farm, while helping the Ottawa Hospital to find another suitable location for its future campus.
