The Byward Market has been an important commercial centre in Ottawa for nearly two centuries. The area is also at the heart of the struggle for francophone rights in Ontario. Find out more about francophone history in the heart of the capital on this tour of Lowertown.

GUIDE: Mark Farine is a francophone teacher in Ottawa with a Master’s degree in history from the University of Ottawa. He is the author of numerous guided tours in Lowertown.
