HERITAGE OTTAWA

Just in time for summer and Canada 150, a new book celebrates architectural heritage in the Ottawa-Gatineau region with 11 unique, self-guided tours of interest to local residents and visitors alike.

Exploring the Capital by architectural historian Andrew Waldron guides readers through Parliament Hill, the Byward Market, the Rideau Canal, Sandy Hill, the Glebe, Old Ottawa South and Alta Vista, Nepean, New Edinburgh, Rockcliffe, Vanier and beyond with interesting insights and background information about more than 250 buildings.  Well illustrated with comprehensive route maps and featuring superb photos by Dr. Peter Coffman, the tours are suited to walking, cycling, driving in some cases, or armchair travelling.

The book builds upon the 1983 guidebook Exploring Ottawa by architectural historian Harold Kalman, who also contributed to the new publication.

The public is invited to a free book launch event with author Andrew Waldron on Tuesday, June 20 at Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street West.

The event is hosted by Library and Archives Canada and the University of Ottawa Press, in collaboration with the City of Gatineau and Tourisme Outaouais. The presentation will be in both official languages.
