HERITAGE OTTAWA
A new book published by Friends of the Central Experimental Farm celebrates the beauty of the Farm's Ornamental Gardens, their heritage value and their significance to the history of Canada's ornamental horticulture.
Entitled Blooms: An Illustrated History of the Ornamental Gardens at Ottawa's Central Experimental Farm, the book includes many historic and contemporary photos depicting how the Gardens have grown since the Farm began in 1886. Spectacular floral collections of the past and present are presented including roses, lilacs, crabapples, peonies and irises that originated in Ottawa from the efforts of dedicated researchers.
"Ornamental beauty has always played a vital role at the Farm," says author Richard Hinchcliffe, who has been photographing the Farm and researching its history for many years.
"We are enormously proud of this project," says Judy Dodds, President of the Friends of the Central Experimental Farm. "And the profits from book sales will go a long way to support our mission of helping to enhance and protect the Central Experimental Farm."
The book launches on October 19 and can be picked up in person at the Friends office in Building 72 at the Farm. Click here for hours and other purchase details.
