HERITAGE OTTAWA

Robert Allsopp, noted urban designer and key figure in the planning and design of the Long Term Vision and Plan for Ottawa's Parliamentary and Judicial Precincts, is to be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA).

Throughout his distinguished career as an architect, landscape architect and city planner, Mr. Allsopp has helped shape the creation of many meaningful urban environments. In Ottawa, his award-winning projects include siting of the National Gallery and the Museum of Canadian History, the Ceremonial Route on Confederation Boulevard, the Parliamentary and Judicial Precincts, and "Views Protection" policies that protect the visual integrity of the Parliament Buildings and other landmarks.

Last September as part of the Heritage Ottawa Lecture Series, Robert Allsopp along with heritage consultant Lyette Fortin presented an informative talk on the impact of the proposed Monument to the Victims of Communism on the Long Term Vision and Plan. Heritage Ottawa has since welcomed the announcement of Canadian Heritage minister Melanie Joly that the Long Term Vision and Plan would be respected, and that a new monument design will be developed for a different location.

Heritage Ottawa congratulates Robert Allsopp on the well-deserved recognition of this lifetime achievement award, and thanks him for his stellar contributions to Ottawa's urban fabric.
