HERITAGE OTTAWA

The Board of Directors of Heritage Ottawa is pleased to announce the selection on May 27, 2019, of Richard Belliveau as its new president. Richard has served on the board since 2008.

Richard Belliveau succeeds David Jeanes who completed his term as president after the organization’s Annual General Meeting earlier that month, having served in that role from 2015-2019.

During his years on the Board, Richard has chaired the Publications Committee, which produced books on Werner Ernst Noffke and Ottawa’s heritage apartment buildings. He also worked at planning and organizing the successful heritage walking tour program, and remains a member of the Newsletter Editorial Committee and an occasional editor of the quarterly Newsletter.

Richard Belliveau worked for forty years in Canada’s ministry of Foreign Affairs, serving among other positions as Canada’s Consul General in Shanghai, High Commissioner in Brunei Darussalam, and Ambassador in Algeria.

His academic training was in History and English literature with a BA(Hon) at the University of Toronto, and Diplôme d’Études supérieures at l’Université de Montréal.

Richard Belliveau has lived and worked in Ottawa since 1966 and is committed to the conservation of his city’s history and heritage.

Richard says that he hopes to contribute to the important role that Heritage Ottawa has achieved in focusing the attention of citizens and elected officials on the wonders of Ottawa’s unique built heritage legacy.
