DIRECTORY OF FEDERAL HERITAGE DESIGNATIONS HAS A NEW LOOK

Heritage Ottawa

Parks Canada recently launched the Directory of Federal Heritage Designations' (DFHD) new interactive platform.

The DFHD is an important source of information about places, persons, and events that have been recognized by the federal government for their significance in Canadian history. It includes over 14,000 records for over 3,850 federal heritage designations and offers a variety of resources, including maps, plaque texts, photos, graphs, and references.

The DFHD uses Arches, an open-source platform with interactive tools specifically intended for cultural heritage information, and designed for data management, discovery and visualization.

To help introduce users to the new platform, Parks Canada offers a helpful Glossary of Terms and a Tutorial on the DFHD search tool.

Parks Canada invites users to explore the platform and learn about how these people, places and events profoundly shaped Canada's identity.
