OTTAWA REGIONAL HERITAGE FAIR - AWARD RECIPIENTS
The Ottawa Regional Heritage Fair was held this year on April 28, 2026 at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, and Heritage Ottawa once again supported the Fair by sponsoring a Heritage Ottawa Award for the best project depicting a built-heritage structure or landscape in the National Capital Region.
We are delighted to announce this year’s award winners, a team of two students from Immaculata High School, Kendra Singheng and Ashlane Kepseu. The subject of their project was L’édifice commémoratif de la reine Victoria (Victoria Memorial Museum), the beloved historic building at the end of Metcalfe Street now known as the Canadian Museum of Nature.
The one-hundred-dollar award was presented by Richard Belliveau, past president of Heritage Ottawa, who was also a volunteer judge at the Fair. Two other board members – Thomas Gonçalves and Mary Catherine Moran – were volunteer judges.
For the first time this year, Heritage Ottawa made its presence known at the fair with an information table featuring the HO banner and back copies of our Newsletter, and staffed by board member Linda Hoad and Operations Officer Jennifer Lane.
There were 77 individual projects entered in the exhibition and competition, prepared by 131 students representing eleven schools from around Ottawa, as well as the Eganville and District Public School whose contingent included students from the Golden Lake Reserve.
The Heritage Fair program is a nation-wide educational initiative by Canada’s History Society and is supported locally by the Historical Society of Ottawa. The program, aimed at students from grades four to ten, encourages youth to explore the many aspects of Canadian history, heritage, and culture in a dynamic learning environment and to celebrate the results of their efforts at a public exhibition in their region.
