HERITAGE OTTAWA
UPDATE | March 3, 2017: Designs by five finalists for a new Monument to the Victims of Communism are now available for review on the Government of Canada's website.
The Department of Canadian Heritage will host a public viewing of design proposals by the finalists for a new Memorial to the Victims of Communism.
Members of the public are invited to attend and share their thoughts on the proposed designs. An online consultation / public survey will be launced simultaneously, giving all Canadians a chance to view the finalist's designs and share their opinions.
An earlier plan to build a larger memorial on Wellington Street adjacent to the Supreme Court of Canada was cancelled in 2015. Public consultations were followed by the announcement that a new competition would be conducted to design a smaller, more human-scale memorial to be sited on the west lawn of the Garden of the Provinces and Territories.
