Lower Town West, the oldest neighbourhood in the capital, has played a central role in Ottawa’s history and development since its founding in 1826. It is here that several of the city’s oldest institutions were established: the General Hospital in 1845, the Bishop’s Palace in 1847, and the College of Bytown, the future University of Ottawa, in 1848.

Explore this historic neighbourhood and be charmed by the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral, the elegant Valade, Flavien and Alphonse-Rochon houses, the Bishop’s Palace, the former De La Salle Academy building and several historical plaques.

This tour will be presented in French.
