Heritage Day
Join Heritage Ottawa in celebrating Heritage Day on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 with special heritage events held from 11:30am to 2:00pm at Ottawa City Hall.
This year's theme is "My Canada! / Mon Canada!" in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Confederation.
Mayor Jim Watson will proclaim February 21 to be Heritage Day in Ottawa and will recognize the importance of distinctive destinations and exploring historic places.
Canada is rich in historic sites, special places and events that tell our story and delight visitors from near and far. Our distinctive destinations are as varied as Canadians themselves: Aboriginal Pow Wows, music halls, traditional fishing villages, historic lighthouses, old stone mills, prairie festivals and botanical gardens.
Heritage tourism offers adventure, storied history, vibrant culture and stunning landscapes for every age group and interest: from trendy ’hoods to rural farmsteads, kid-friendly forts to sacred landmarks, and country inns to grand hotels.
Whether travelling across town or cross-country, Canada’s distinctive destinations are definitely worth the trip!
Join the Cultural and Heritage Services Branch in partnership with the Council of Heritage Organizations in Ottawa at Ottawa City Hall, browse informational displays and mingle with over 45 exhibitors, including Heritage Ottawa, at the 2017 Heritage Showcase. Find out how heritage is being celebrated in your community; learn about services offered by local heritage organizations, public programs and special initiatives, as well as professional development and volunteer opportunities.
For the young, and the young at heart, historic places made for play are all around us and ready to be enjoyed.
In addition to Heritage Day, the entire third week of February 20 to 26, 2017 is Heritage Week. Celebrate heritage by visiting a historic site, a heritage property or a museum.

The 2017 Heritage Day Celebrations will take place at Jean Piggott Place, Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West. The event is free of charge.
