Rideau Hall, the Bank of Canada building and 10 local embassies are some of this year's new attractions for the 2017 edition of Doors Open Ottawa this weekend.

The city has added 39 buildings that were not part of last year's version of the event, which is billed as the second-largest Doors Open architectural event in North America.

More than 150 buildings around the National Capital Region will be open to the public for free on Saturday and Sunday. About 80,000 people are expected to take part in the event, the city said.

A full list is participating buildings, which range from Cumberland to Carp, is available here.

Another new addition this year is a photo contest with Doublespace Photography. More details on the contest can be found here.

Algonquin College has also helped develop a Doors Open Ottawa smartphone app to provide visitors with all the information they need for the weekend. The iOS and Android apps are available to download in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.

People can also get a behind-the-scenes look at the CBC and Radio-Canada newsrooms in Ottawa this weekend. The downtown office will be open for the first time for Doors Open on Saturday only from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The entrance to the building is on Sparks Street between Bank and O'Connor streets.

Visitors will be able to tour the sets for CBC News at 6, Our Ottawa, Power & Politics as well as the radio studio where Ottawa Morning, All in a Day, Ontario Today and In Town and Out are produced.

Pre-registration required for some buildings

While all buildings are accessible free of charge, some require pre-registration, including the Diefenbunker: Canada's Cold War Museum, the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre, and The Ottawa Hospital Minimally Invasive Surgical Suites.

Some locations that required pre-registration, such as the U.S. embassy, are already full and are no longer accepting new visitors.
