HERITAGE OTTAWA
Our heritage stands at a critical crossroads.
A controversial application for major alterations to Ottawa's Château Laurier, if allowed to proceed as proposed, stands to inappropriately alter this significant heritage building and forever compromise iconic views in the heart of our nation's capital.
Heritage Ottawa outlined its concerns about the proposed Château Laurier addition in two public statements released in September and November 2016, after presentation of initial and revised designs by building owners Larco Investments.
This is likely the most important heritage application to go before this City Council, and possibly the city’s most important heritage application in a generation.
In response to public outcry, the City of Ottawa has taken the unprecedented step of creating an online public survey to gather opinions about the proposed Château Laurier addition.
Your voice matters greatly.
Heritage Ottawa urges all concerned citizens to review the Château Laurier information page on the city's website and complete the online public survey before it closes on March 14 to make your views known.
Your actions can help to preserve the integrity of this important heritage building.
Heritage Ottawa has a place on the expert working group of architects and heritage professionals established to provide advice to the applicant, the city and the National Capital Commission. We will continue to advocate for a solution of architectural excellence that honours the Château Laurier's heritage value.
