NEW TOUR — Ottawa, as Canada’s capital city, is home to over 100 monuments representing national and local figures, histories, and memories. This tour begins at the National War Memorial then heads down Elgin Street to Minto Park, stopping at well-known national monuments and more obscure local ones along the way. GuideTonya Davidson will share their histories, associated rituals, acts of repair, neglect, protest and defacement.

This tour will demonstrate that monuments are lively sites where the understanding of national and local belonging are both cast and disrupted in ongoing ways.

GUIDE: Tonya Davidson is a sociologist and instructor at Carleton University who has spent many years studying the social lives of statues in Ottawa.
