NEW TOUR: Lowertown is one of the oldest surviving colonial settler neighbourhoods in the region. Though always under development pressure, it has survived as a diverse and livable neighbourhood. Surrounding the older neighbourhood is a unique and often overlooked collection of buildings and properties that bring Lowertown an international flair.
This tour features the architectural landmarks of the world's embassies, consulates and representatives in a single concentrated area of downtown Ottawa. Set aside by the federal government, the 'embassy row' along Sussex Drive and Boteler Street is an integral part of Lowertown's dynamic built environment. A guided visit to many of these buildings, with possible entry (to be confirmed), will be enjoyed by those who register.
GUIDE: Andrew Waldron, a local resident, architectural historian and heritage conservationist, is the author of Exploring the Capital: An Architectural Guide to the Ottawa-Gatineau Region.
