Lowertown East, bounded by Rideau Street, King Edward Avenue and the Rideau River, is one of Ottawa's oldest districts. It has always strongly been identified by its francophone population whose history remains vibrant to this day. The tour will focus on heritage buildings, their architects and their transformations through time. Despite a controversial 1970s urban redevelopment, Lowertown East remains a walkable neighbourhood.

GUIDE : Hélène Beauchamp, whose family arrived in Bytown in the 1860s, is fascinated by the history of francophone Lowertown East and of St. Anne Parish.

Please note that this tour takes place on Saturday and will be conducted in French. The guide will take questions in both French and English.
