Saved and Lost
Heritage Ottawa has been fighting for the preservation of our city's heritage buildings and historic landscapes since the Rideau Street Convent and its chapel were removed in the early seventies. That was one of those "never-to-be-repeated" experiences that gave us our raison d'étre.
Now we are on the scene when any heritage building is threatened. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. But the battle must be fought, or we will live in a community without a past, without memories, without the glories of that most unhideable of art forms — architecture.
