CELEBRATING OTTAWA'S 150th BIRTHDAY!

Heritage Ottawa is pleased to offer a series of eight free public lectures as part of its educational program in support of Ottawa’s built heritage.

Wednesday, Oct 19 at 7:30 pm
Architect, Barry Padolsky will talk about the restoration of the Victoria Museum building, current home of the Canadian Museum of Nature.
Location: Mezzanine of the Canadian Museum of Nature, 240 McLeod Street.

Wednesday, Nov 16 at 7:30 pm
Heritage conservationist and Carleton professor, Herb Stovel, will talk about Canada’s role within the World Heritage Convention.
Location: Richelieu-Vanier Community Centre, 300 Avenue des Pères-Blancs.

Wednesday, Jan 18 at 7:30 pm
Railway and city historian, David Jeanes, will talk about Thomas Seaton Scott, first government Chief Architect and architect to the Anglican Church and Grand Trunk Railway.
Location: St. Bartholomew’s Church, 125 MacKay Street.

Wednesday, Feb 22 at 7:30 pm
Architect, Mark Brandt will deliver the inaugural Bob and Mary Anne Phillips Memorial Lecture entitled, “A National Treasure: The Chaudière District in Canada Capital.”
Location: Laurentian Leadership Centre (former Laurentian Club), 252 Metcalfe Street.

Wednesday, April 5 at 7:30 pm
Architect John Cook will recount the challenges and achievements of the restoration of the former Plant Bath as the Plant Recreation Centre.
Location: Plant Recreation Centre, 930 Somerset Street West.

Wednesday, April 19 at 7:30 pm
Restoration architect Julian Smith will speak about his work restoring the Vimy Memorial located on the site of the battle of Vimy Ridge
Location: Cartier Square Drill Hall, 2 Queen Elizabeth Driveway.

Wednesday May 17 at 7:30 pm
Architectural and urban design writer and critic Rhys Phillips will give his sometimes controversial assessment of the state of Ottawa’s modern built heritage.
Location: Rockcliffe Park Recreation Centre Hall, 380 Springfield Road.

Tuesday, June 20 at 7:30 pm
Heritage Ottawa / Bytown Railway Society Lecture - Original design architect Gene Kinoshita and project architect Ted Sievenpiper, (formerly of John B. Parkin Associates), will describe the creation of Ottawa’s train station in 1966 for Canada’s centennial, winner of a Massey gold medal.
Location: Canada Science and Technology Museum auditorium, 1867 St. Laurent Blvd.
